Description

Traditional Salt Box

Features a flip top lid and a carry handle that will ensure salt flakes are always at your fingertips while cooking, while keeping your salt free of moisture, dust and food debris.

Zero Japan products are made of the finest porcelain quality clay. A lot of handwork is involved in the process from molding to glazing the products. The whole process including the firing in the kiln takes several days. The biscuit firing or first firing at a lower temperature is to dry the clay, after which the glaze is applied by hand. The second firing at a very high temperature for around 18 hours is to make the product waterproof and vitrify the glaze. The right temperature will bring out a brilliant shiny glaze and beautiful color.

The Japanese designer Koji Inoue designed the Zero Japan products with the following three concepts in mind: “highly functional”, “great to touch” and “a pleasure to the eye”.

This salt box should be washed by hand.

Can also be used for storing butter.

    Perfect

Very practical! It is really hard to find a salt box that actually does the job well, and the ZeroJapan does do it well. The lid on the ZeroJapan pops up and down easily with a flick of the finger. Most other salt boxes are too fiddly, or have completely detached lids which is not what you want to deal with if you only have one hand free. When the lid pops up it sits just past 90 degrees (about 100 degrees), so it is well out of the way, and props itself up. The ZeroJapan lid forms a good seal, so that your salt doesn't pick up moisture in humid conditions. I have trouble with humidity so salt cellars without lids or bad seals just won't do. The box and opening is a good size, which makes it comfortable to reach your hand in to grab a pinch of salt, and easy to see what you are grabbing as you do it. There is also enough depth to eliminate salt spilling over as you pinch, etc. And plenty of room to fill with a lot of salt, so you don't have to refill all the time. The colour is pleasant and looks like in the photo. I was originally going to get a white one, but realised that a coloured box is more practical for seeing the salt. I would definitely buy it again, and recommend. 5/5
